You know the saying "You are what you eat"?
Well it really should be changed to is you are what you absorb and digest!

If you care about your health and your nutrition you know it’s important to eat plant-based, high-quality whole foods. To take your nutrition a step further let’s talk about FOOD COMBINING for OPTIMAL DIGESTION.
The human stomach digests foods by using different enzymes and at different rates depending on the types food you choose. If some of your health goals include weight loss, eliminating bloating and gas, and creating lasting energy these food combining tips can help the health of your gut.
1. Fruits First Fruit is a food that digests best alone. It has the fastest exit rate of the stomach, therefore should be eaten first or alone.
2. Protein and Starches do NOT Mix You may have grown up as a meat & potatoes type of person but this is one of the worst food combinations in terms of optimal digestion. The human body requires an acid base to digest proteins and an alkaline base to digest starches, this can lengthen the time of digestion and cause fermentation in the gut. It is best to eat proteins with non-starchy vegetables and especially leafy greens. Starches can be consumed on their own or with other vegetables, but not with protein.
3. Eat Melons Alone Melons digest completely different than other sweet fruits. They quickly pass from the stomach into the small intestine for digestion and assimilation. Melons should be consumed alone and on an empty stomach. When consumed with or after other foods that require complex digestion in the stomach, melons cannot pass into the small intestine until the digestion of other foods in the stomach is complete.
4. Leafy Greens ALL the time Greens are easily one of the best life giving foods of all time. Loaded with of amino acids, minerals, nutrients and fiber, they food combine well with all foods. Load up your plate with lots of greens! The live enzymes will help your other food digest smoothly.
5. Fat Rules While fats and oils combine well with everything (except fruit!), they are calorie dense and can slow down digestion.
6. Time Lengths Because foods digest at different rates, you can lessen the load on your body by waiting until the previous food has exited the stomach and is being digested in the intestines. Wait the following amount of time between foods that don’t combine: * Two hours after eating fruit * Three hours after eating starches * Four hours after eating protein
I also like to take digestive enzymes with meals and try not to drink liquids 20 min before and 20 min after. Drinks can dilute the enzymes and stomach acid needed to break down your food. To reduce health concerns, experience better elimination, improve digestion, and feel your best, consider adopting the simple food combining tips in your meals!
Happy digesting!
